Keynote by Maciej Korczynski at gtsslr2026: Network Traffic Measurements and Data Analysis for DNS Security
Securing the Domain Name System (DNS) requires understanding both technical vulnerabilities and the conditions that enable abuse. This talk presents two contributions that combine Internet measurements and data analysis to examine these dimensions. First, we show how DNS resolvers can reveal gaps in inbound source address validation across the Internet, exposing networks to attacks using spoofed IP addresses. Second, we investigate how domain registration prices, service offerings, and security practices relate to malicious registrations used for phishing. Together, these studies illustrate how empirical evidence can inform network defenses and anti-abuse practices across the domain registration ecosystem.
